Tax Senior Manager– Wealth Management / Family Office /UHNW

Location: Chatham, NJ (On-site)

Industry: Financial Services / Family Office

Compensation: Base salary up to $175K DOE + bonus + full benefits (100% employer-paid)

ur client is a private family office providing investment management, estate planning, tax, and accounting services to a multigenerational high-net-worth family. The office manages a complex and diversified portfolio that includes traditional investments, real estate, private partnerships, and charitable entities. The firm supports a small group of individual clients, trusts, and a significant private foundation, and prides itself on discretion, long-term stewardship, and deep financial expertise.

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Tax Director with significant high-net-worth tax experience to lead the firm’s accounting and tax operations. This individual will play a strategic role in supporting family members, trusts, partnerships, and the firm’s charitable foundation. The Controller will also oversee all internal financial reporting, manage relationships with external accounting and legal professionals, and supervise internal accounting staff. This is a hands-on, detail-oriented position requiring strong tax and financial acumen and excellent interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Tax Planning & Compliance

  • Prepare quarterly federal and state estimated tax payments for individuals, trusts, estates, and a private foundation
  • Prepare and review year-end tax schedules for submission to outside tax advisors
  • Oversee tax return preparation and conduct final review
  • Perform advanced tax research and planning; resolve complex tax issues
  • Maintain and update tax-basis spreadsheets across various entities (LLCs, S-Corps, partnerships, trusts)
  • Draft tax-related correspondence to Trustees
  • Manage relationship with outside tax firm
  • Utilize tax software: BNA Tax Planner, UltraTax, TaxAct

Accounting & Financial Operations

  • Manage day-to-day accounting functions and supervise internal staff
  • Close books monthly and prepare management reporting packages
  • Review financial statements across individuals, partnerships, trusts, and corporate entities
  • Oversee internal controls and implement financial process improvements
  • Manage risk management and insurance-related matters
  • Prepare and administer operating budgets; present to senior leadership
  • Review and approve trust and portfolio-related disbursements
  • Serve as liaison among trustees, attorneys, accountants, and family members
  • Prepare and consolidate financial statements for LLCs
  • Calculate and manage partner/beneficiary distributions
  • Oversee banking relationships and accounts payable processes
  • Utilize accounting software: Accounting CS, Fixed Assets CS, PortfolioCenter (Envestnet)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • CPA required
  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience with a heavy focus on high-net-worth tax.
  • Experience working with high-net-worth clients, trusts, estates, partnerships, and charitable entities
  • Supervisory experience with ability to lead and mentor accounting/tax staff
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and relevant accounting/tax platforms
  • Trust and estate experience highly preferred
  • Enthusiastic, hands-on professional with a commitment to financial stewardship
