Job Title: Metallurgical Technician

Location: Chattanooga, TN

Employment Type: Full-Time, 6 month contract

Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, 8 hours per day

Salary Range: $32.58 - $48.87 per hour (based on experience)

Job Description:

System One is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Metallurgical Technician to support our client based in Chattanooga, TN. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting metallurgical engineers by performing a variety of metallurgical testing and evaluation tasks on materials and components.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare, examine, and evaluate various materials, primarily metals, using metallographic techniques and mechanical testing methods.
• Conduct chemical analyses, image analyses, and utilize optical and scanning electron microscopy for routine and non-routine analyses.
• Perform material dedication, component damage assessments, failure analyses, and contribute to research projects.
• Identify and recommend changes to processes or procedures based on non-routine analysis findings.
• Provide expert technical assistance to metallurgical engineers and customers by discussing analysis results and recommending additional testing or improvements.
• Prepare test and calibration reports as requested by metallurgical engineers.
• Apply Total Quality Management (TQM) principles to resolve problems and achieve performance improvements.
• Ensure compliance with QA/QC procedures and regulatory requirements, particularly in support of the nuclear power industry.
• Occasionally review test data developed by lower-grade technicians or other team members.

Qualifications:

• Associate's degree in a related science field.
• A minimum of four years of laboratory experience in metallographic sample preparation, etching microstructures, hardness measurements, and mechanical testing.
• Experience with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive analysis (EDS) is highly desirable.
• Must be willing and medically qualified to work rotating shifts and overtime as permitted during peak periods.
