Job Description

HBRE is a design/build firm serving the Twin Cities metropolitan area. With an office located in St. Louis Park, MN, our company has successfully completed a combination of several hundred residential remodel and new build construction projects. HBRE’s simple objectives as a company are to be transparent, honest, available, accountable, and profitable. We desire to surround ourselves with customers, employees, suppliers, and subcontractors who share these values as we pursue our passion of talking to and working with individuals, couples and families who find themselves needing to create, change and improve their homes and, in turn, lives.

The position of Lead Carpenter is an integral role for HBRE and reports to a Project Manager. Carpenters are involved with projects end-to-end from site preparation to punch list completion and clean-up. While every project has its own custom requirements, HBRE staff will execute various work activities (e.g. demolition, framing, light drywall and tile, trim, and painting) depending upon the requirements of its active projects, commensurate with the skills of HBRE’s staff. A Lead Carpenter’s value and success is determined by both their ability to 1) consistently and proficiently perform these types of residential construction work activities while also 2) communicating and conducting themselves appropriately on the job site. They are a key representative of HBRE to both the homeowner customer and our trusted subcontractors with whom they interact.

An ideal candidate for this position will meet the following requirements, qualifications, and competencies:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a Carpenter or similar position(s).
  • The ability and knowledge to read construction drawings and building plans to know the requirements of the project, both the structural frameworks and the finish specifications.
  • The ability to perform a variety of work (framing to finish) when constructing or remodeling additions, kitchens, basements, bathrooms, decks, and garages.
  • The ability to perform typical finish carpentry activities such as the proper installation of basic cabinetry, interior doors, trim (including crown molding), stairs, and railings.
  • Ability to guide, mentor, and direct Apprentice Carpenters as needed.
  • Understanding of residential building codes.
  • Familiar with common workmanship performance guidelines and safety standards.
  • High degree of personal accountability, integrity, and effectiveness when self-managed.
  • Basic computer skills such as MS Office 365 and web-based ordering and app navigation.
  • The use of a personally owned and insured automobile for travel to multiple, varying job sites, HBRE office, and supplier locations, as needed (daily requirement).
